as far as i know the wages had been about 900,-mark per month, regardless if you had been an unskilled worker or an engineer, at least there had been not as much differences as now. i guess the main problem wasn`t that the computers had been to expensive, but just to get one. they never had enough computers for what we now would call consumer market. all east german pc`s had been used by the state or by companies. when the first homecomputers came out many of them had been used by companies/state/schools. i guess the most common way to use a homecomputer was to join a computerclub.
